Australia gives approval for importing fresh Vietnamese mango

The Vietnam Trade Office in Australia announced that, Australia has given the approval for improrting Vietnamese fresh mango into the country after years of negotiations, Vietnam applied for a license

This import decision makes fresh mango the second Vietnamese fruit, after litchi, to be imported into Australia. The first batch of mango will arrive in Australia this month, with about 18 tonnes being imported everyday soon, the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia announced.

The mango exports will come from Suoi Lon Mango Cooperative in the southern province of Dong Nai province. The Suoi Lon Mango Cooperative has 150 hectares of mangoes, including nearly 25 hectares meeting the Vietnam Good Agricultural Practice (VietGAP) and Global Good Agricultural Practice (GlobalGAP) standards. Each season could harvest over 4,500 tonnes of fruits.

Prices of export mangoes will be higher than that of domestic market. The shipment will be carried out via air and sea routes.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Australia and the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia organised programmes to introduce the fruit at the Australia International Food Fair from September 12 -15, 2016 to promote trade and boost consumption of the fruit. In this event, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the trade office and the Vietnam Business Association in Australia on supporting consumption of Vietnamese agricultural products, including fresh fruits was signed.
