Chính nhờ sản lượng tăng mạnh, nên lượng tôm thẻ xuất khẩu hằng tháng đều có mức tăng rất mạnh so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái. Chẳng hạn, trong tháng 8, giá trị xuất khẩu tôm thẻ đạt 189 triệu USD, tăng tới 194,1% so với tháng 8/2012.
Trong tháng 9 vừa rồi, xuất khẩu tôm thẻ chân trắng ước đạt 154 triệu USD, tăng 141,2% so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái... Trong khi đó, tuy giá trị xuất khẩu tôm sú cũng tăng so với cùng kỳ nhưng mức tăng vẫn thua xa so với tôm thẻ, thậm chí có tháng còn giảm nhẹ.
Đáng lưu ý là xuất khẩu tôm trong 9 tháng qua vẫn giữ được mức tăng trưởng rất tốt (24,3%), các sản phẩm thủy sản chủ lực khác đều tăng trưởng âm. Cá tra giảm 3,5%, cá ngừ giảm 7,2%, cá các loại khác giảm 5,8%, nhuyễn thể giảm 16,4% và cua ghẹ giảm 15,8%...
Ông Trương Đình Hòe nhận định, trong mấy tháng cuối năm nay, xuất khẩu tôm nói chung sẽ tiếp tục xu hướng tăng lên, nhất là khi Việt Nam vừa tránh được thuế chống trợ cấp khi xuất khẩu tôm sang thị trường Mỹ.
Giá trị xuất khẩu tôm thẻ cả năm nay chắc chắn sẽ lần đầu tiên vượt qua mốc 1 tỷ USD, và đứng đầu trong tổng giá trị xuất khẩu tôm cả năm (dự tính khoảng 2,2 tỷ USD).
