FDI into Vietnam in 2015: Lower projects’ number but higher capital

According to Vietnam General office of statistics, from the beginning of the year to 15/12/2015, FDI attracted 1,588 newly licensed projects with the registered capital of US $ 15.58 billion, decrease

At the same time, 814 times of license-granted projects from the previous years were provided with additional capital of US$ 7.18 billion. Thus the total registered capital of both newly and additionally financed projects reached US$ 22.76 billion, although up12.5% against the same period in 2014, but it was 19% higher than the plan. Estimated realized FDI capital in 2014 gained US$ 14.5 billion, rose 17.4% from the last year’s same period.

In the year, the manufacturing attracted foreign investors with the registered capital of US$ 15.23 billion, accounting for 66.9% of the total registered capital; the power generation and supply and the water supply and sewage treatment attracted $2809.2 million, accounting for 12.4%, the real estate business received US$ 2394.7 million, representing 10.5%; other industries received US $ 2320.1 million, taking 10.2%.

The country has 48 provinces receiving new foreign direct investment projects in 2015, of which, Ho Chi Minh City was the leading with the registered capital of US$ 2811.7 million, accounting for 18% of total newly registered capital of the whole country; followed by Tra Vinh province with US$ 2526.8 million, accounting for 16.2%; Thai Binh province US$ 2465.8 million, accounting for 15.8%; Dong Nai province US$ 1471.9 million, accounting for 9.4%; Hanoi city US$ 910.7 million, accounting for 5.8%; Haiphong city US$ 573.1 million, accounting for 3.7%; Tay Ninh province SD 502.9 million, accounting for 3.2%; Quang Ninh US$ 373.9 million, accounting for 2.4%.

Of the 58 countries and territories that have granted new investment projects in Vietnam in 2015, South Korea is the leading investor with US$ 2678.5 million, accounting for 17.2% of total newly registered capital; followed by Malaysia US$ 2447.5 million, accounting for 15.7%; Samoa US$ 1314 million, accounting for 8.4%; Japan US$ 1285 million, accounting for 8.2%; the United Kingdom US$ 1265.7 million, accounting for 8.1%; Singapore US$ 1035 million, accounting for 6.6%; Taiwan US$ 940.4 million, up 6%; British Virgin Islands US$ 697.8 million, accounting for 4.5%; China US$ 665.5 million, representing 4.3%.
