At the meeting, both sides highly appreciated the cooperation in power and energy sector between GE and Vietnam in recent years and do hope that GE would continue to develop and expand the cooperation and investment in the future.
The GE’s representative has said that, since 2009, GE has invested more than US$110 million in its Hai Phong manufacturing facility which employs more than 600 engineers and skilled workers. Wind turbine generators and other energy products manufactured in Hai Phong are exported to GE’s manufacturing and service centers around the globe. In late 2012, GE announced the establishment of an Engineering Center in Vietnam to focus on product design, applications and services for the oil and gas sector.
Deputy Minister Tran Tuan Anh has specified that technological development is essential for the industrialization but human resources are the core elements to develop these technologies. Deputy Minister appreciated GE's competencies, and agreed with the standpoint that human resources are an asset for restructuring and comprehensive development. Simultaneously, Deputy Minister emphasized that the MOIT would focus to develop the smart grids, renewable energy in the coming term.
Deputy Minister Mr. Tran Tuan Anh underlined that the MOIT would assign the enterprises to speed up the process, the legal framework, and continue to develop the cooperation with GE in Vietnam. He also expected that GE, a large corporation with experience and competence will continue to support the MOIT in training, capacity building, knowledge in the technology development of power, oil and gas industry for the state management team, technical support team of the MOIT in particular and of Vietnam in general.
