The bilateral trade of Vietnam – Canada hit over 2.7 billion USD

According to Statistics Canada, Vietnam’s exports to Canada were valued at over 2.7 billion USD in the first nine months of 2016, a year-on-year increase of 14.8 percent while imports totaled 350 mill

The Statistics Canada said that Vietnam continued to lead the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in terms of trade with Canada. Vietnam was the fifth largest Asian exporter to Canada after China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan (China) in the reviewed period, up one place from the same period last year.

The main exports of Vietnam to Canada included machinery, electric and electronic appliances, footwear, clothing, and interior and exterior wood furniture.Meanwhile, Vietnam imported mainly seafood, cereals, fertilizers, soybean and machinery from Canada.

According to Hoang Anh Dung, Vietnam’s commercial counsellor in Canada, Vietnam’s export growth to Canada is remarkable in the context of decreasing exports of other ASEAN countries to Canada.

Statistics Canada shows that the North American country’s total trade value in the first three quarters was 590 billion USD, of which export value stood at 287 billion USD, down 7.6 percent, and import value, 303 billion USD, down 4.8 percent.
