The MoIT issued self-defence measures against imported colour-coated iron sheets

On July 6, 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) issued Decision No. 2847/QD-BTC on applying self-defence measures against imported colour-coated iron sheets.

Before issuing the Decision, the Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) under the MoIT received a petition for applying self-defence measures against imported colour-coated iron sheets from Nghiem & Chinh lawyers firm who represents a group of local companies including: Dai Thien Loc Corporation, Nam Kim Steel JSC and Ton Dong A Corporation. After reviewing the petition, the VCA confirmed that the petition is complete and valid with the current regulations.

Products subject to investigation under the Decision No. 2847/QD-BTC include metal-plated and colour-coated iron sheets, coils and roofing sheets with the HS codes: 7210.7010, 7210.7090, 7212.4010, 7212.4020, 7212.4090, 7225.9990, 7226.9919, and 7226.9999.

Based on Article 20 of the Ordinance on safeguards on importing foreign goods into Vietnam, the MoIT can issue a decision on applying temporary self-defence measures before the end of investigation in case it notes that delays in carrying out self-defence measures may cause drastic losses to the domestic production industry.

Therefore, the MoIT recommends domestic importers take into consideration the possibility of applying temporary self-defence measures against their targeted products.
