Mỹ đã vượt qua Nhật Bản trở thành thị trường nhập khẩu tôm lớn nhất của Việt
Nam.
Tháng 9/2013, xuất khẩu tôm sang Mỹ chứng kiến mức tăng kỷ lục với 138,7% so với cùng kỳ năm 2012.
Tháng 9 cũng là tháng mà ngành tôm Việt Nam cùng lúc đón nhận 2 quyết định quan trọng và có ý nghĩa. Thứ nhất là kết quả cuối cùng của đợt xem xét hành chính thuế chống bán phá giá lần thứ 7 đối với tôm Việt Nam nhập khẩu vào Mỹ giai đoạn từ 1/2/2011-31/1/2012: Toàn bộ 33 công ty tham gia xem xét lần này đều được công nhận không bán phá giá tôm vào thị trường Mỹ và nhận mức thuế 0%. Tiếp đó, vào cuối tháng 9, Ủy ban Thương mại Quốc tế Mỹ (ITC) đã phủ quyết quyết định áp thuế chống trợ cấp 4,52% của Bộ Thương mại Mỹ (DOC) đối với tôm Việt Nam và 6 nước khác trong vụ kiện chống trợ cấp do ngành tôm nội địa Mỹ khởi xướng vào cuối tháng 12/2012.
Hai quyết định này không chỉ giảm bớt gánh nặng về mặt chi phí cho các doanh nghiệp xuất khẩu tôm Việt Nam mà quan trọng hơn là Mỹ đã thừa nhận ngành xuất khẩu tôm Việt Nam đã và đang hoạt động theo cơ chế thị trường và không nhận bất cứ sự trợ cấp nào từ phía Chính phủ.
