The achievements and challenges for Vietnam after one year of WTO membership

WTO accession was really an important landmark on the development of changing economy as Vietnam. In over ten years, since the application handed for accession, up to point of negotiation end, new appearance and many changes covered on our country’s trade. Vietnam has become WTO membership and a part which has no detachable by world economy as exporter of many commodities. The export has been increased ceasingly and now occupied approx 68 percent GDP (highest level in the world), taking Vietnam to open economy.
   Apart from above-said achievements, in the first year for implementation of WTO commitments, it revealed some challenges which we must be coped with.
  With a status of State organ on trading field, Ministry of Industry and Trade has been implementing continuosly many solutions serving for the enterprises’ import-export activities as follows: Opportunities approach market for Vietnam export commodities must be increased. On this trend, Ministry of Industry and Trade has been presiding over negotiation process on free trade zones with China, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India,... in order to demolish tariff and non-tariff barriers for export of commodities and service by Vietnam to these markets. Promotion activities have been strengthened and diversified through consultant system and national commerce promotions; Establishing trading environment explicitedly and equal competitions; Supplying, exchanging informations with the enterprises etc...
   We are very proud with accorded achievements, but also get to know great challenges with their targets for stable developments. Minister warmly commend staff’s efforts and all enterprises who making active contributions for above-said achievements, at the same time, calling for all efforts, creative dynamism further in coming years.q
